Forgiveness For Backbiting In The Past
I recently found out that if you have done gheebat in order to seek forgiveness from Allah you first need to seek forgiveness from the person you have talked wrong about then Allah. So if I have done backbiting in past but have sought forgiveness for these mistakes from Allah not knowing that I must seek forgiveness from the person himself. Would those mistakes be forgiven or is forgiveness from those people necessary.

If the news may hurt them because you backbited them, you may avoid seeking forgiveness from them. If they already knew it, then you should request them to forgive you.
