  • Is It Haram To Hide One’s Religion For The Sake Of Understanding Another Faith?

I believe that we cannot hide our religion, but sometimes it may be done under certain considerations.I have studied the basic thoughts of different religions and, in particular, Jewish thought, and then chose to follow Islam. My question is this: out of pure curiosity, I contacted a Rabbi — not for dawah or debate — but only to understand on what basis a Jew follows his religion.I hid the fact that I am Muslim because I believed that otherwise he would not answer me.Is this considered haram?

Lying and fraud is haram. What you have written donot show such thing. Yes, if they ask you and without life threatening situation, if you lie then it will be not permissible.

Thank you for your guidance. I took this matter as a matter of prudence, yet I was still feeling guilty, so I apologized to the Rabbi.

Hiding and telling the lie are two different things. Approach to knowledge with honest and fair mind. You do not need to tell a lie.

I made a mistake because I had some uncomfortable questions, so I called myself a Jewish girl. But I have apologized for it.
