According to Islamic guidance, what is the ruling concerning zakat for a retirement fund, such as a 401(k)? You are currently employed but intend to retire in a few years and plan to rely on your 401(k) income upon retirement. Suppose you have accumulated $500,000 in your 401(k). Is it obligatory for you to pay zakat on this amount?
