I used to have a lot of anxiety breastfeeding my child not just in public but also in front close female family because I thought maybe I am violating Quranic injunctions ( fawahish by exposing private parts). This was because my baby ( well most babies I believe ) don’t exactly want to be covered completely and realistically speaking when I was breastfeeding I probably would flash someone with breasts even nipples sometimes so I just tried to be away as much as possible (from even my mother, mother in law and sisters) which made me sad, anxious and lonely. It also just made it harder as there isn’t always a private place available. However, being back in Pakistan and having seen my sister have a baby and her comfortably feeding her child in front me (and other close women ), women helping each other out with feeding the baby (by positioning the baby’s head and nipples). I’ve seen this with other women too. It’s not like they are shamelessly taking their shirts off or something but yes sometimes breasts are visible (and sometimes even nipples when baby stops latching suddenly). It seems like a very supportive nice environment for the mom and baby ( to be surrounded by women with experience to help out and talk to especially when baby is cluster feeding for hours on end).

Is it really fawahish if breasts can be somewhat be visible to close female family / friends while breastfeeding?

every directive comes with exceptions. When it is hard to cover relaxation is given. During breastfeeding the woman should take care to cover her chest but if a pert of it reveals inevitably, for a moment, it is negligible.

Always keep in mind that Deen is easy.

I understand what are trying to say but It’s not a momentary reveal, more like continuous small reveal and I personally always look somewhere else to give mom privacy. It’s the stress of being preoccupied with trying to cover and control an agitated child while being preoccupied by if I’m fully covering.

I know breasts are a private part, but they also serve a unique primary function and historically women probably had to help each other out with that function ( it’s not always intuitive for mom or baby- wasn’t for me atleast, I had to visit lactational specialist). I think I will relax and try to enjoy it more if I am given another child rather than give myself anxiety. Hopefully I do not cross any boundaries in Allah’s eyes in the relaxation I want to avail.

Since Deen is easy, thefore more concession is allowed to ease the hardship.
