  • Missing Conditional Language In 24:31? Is The Drawing Of The Khimar Conditional?

    As Salaam Alaykum,

I’m trying to understand Ghamidi sahab’s interpretation of 24:31. I’ve seen his lectures and I’m still finding it difficult to understand how we can be certain that drawing the khimar over the juyub is conditional upon the presence of adornments at the neckline. The Arabic itself in this section (wal yadribna bi khumurihinna a’la juyubihinna) does not include any conditional words like ‘if’. If someone understands this, please help this sister out.

    Thank you!

Please read my book Khawateen Ka Parda, based on the series Khawateen Ka Parda, by Ghamidi saheb. It discusss in detail the problem you mentioned.

The directive of wearing the veil on bosom came when the second directive of covering the adornments started. Then after this particular directive of covering bosom the verse continues about adornment. That makes it clesr that the directive of covering bosom is in the context of adornment.

It is further testfied that the directive of covering the private parts had already been given. If God had to mention that veil should be used to cover the private parts, it should have come with the directive of guarding the private parts.

It doesn’t mean that bosom should be exposed or not covered when there is no adornment. Chest is the private part of woman she has already been instructed to guard it by covering it well. The other directive of cover the bosom is to cover the adornment on the bosom. This was particularly mentioned to empathise the covering of chest area when adorned.
