The principle is that no zakat is due on items intended for personal use. Therefore, assets such as one’s house and car are not subject to zakat. Likewise, if jewelry is being used and worn, it is considered a personal necessity for a woman; consequently, no zakat is due on it either

This ruling is derived from the unanimous and continuous understanding and practice of the Ummah. It is bsed upon the general principle stated in the Qur’an:

    ﴿مَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيَجْعَلَ عَلَيْكُم مِّنْ حَرَجٍ﴾ (5:6)

“Allah does not intend to place any hardship upon you.”

The prescribed nisab establishes that zakat is not due on wealth below that threshold (Nisab). This principle indicates that items necessary for a person’s basic living requirements are exempt from zakat. If essential personal possessions and necessities were included in zakatable wealth, fulfilling the obligation of zakat would become unduly burdensome for many Muslims, which would be contrary to the ease intended by the Shariah.
