  • Do We Have Responsibilities Toward Ourselves In Islam?

Assalamualaikum. My question is: Islam teaches the rights of Allah and the rights of people. If I fulfill all of these sincerely and honestly, but I do nothing for myself, to the point that my own matters remain neglected, disorganized, and damaged, and I do not worry about them, my family becomes upset with me because of this. For example, if I buy a new pair of shoes, wear them, and then leave them outside instead of putting them on the shoe rack, and they become damaged because of my carelessness, would I be accountable for this as well? Will I be questioned for neglecting my own belongings and responsibilities toward myself?

This kind of negligence is not sinful. God has given us a sense of aesthetics that requires us to look good. However if one harms oneself for not taking care of oneself then one may be accountable for their ungratefulness for not taking care of what God gave them.
