It is observed in our subcontinent (India /Pakistan/Bangladesh), people prior to their departure for Hajj visit their relatives, asking for forgiveness against any wrong committed intentionally or unintentionally and on their return from Hajj host a party for their near and dear ones in celebration of the same. Since, performance of any ibadat deals with the relationship between Allah and the person concerned, my question is whether sin/injustice committed between two individuals can pose a barrier for acceptance of the ibadat by Allah.

Secondly, whether such practices as mentioned above are proved by Sunnah/Tradition or whether they fall under the category of ‘Uswa e Hasanah’ or are cultural in nature.

There’s nothing wrong with these gatherings and celebrations. The journey for people from distant lands is long and arduous, and they may not survive it. So they prefer to resolve disputes with others beforehand. Since this isn’t presented as a religious command, it doesn’t need validation from the Qur’an and Sunnah.

A bad deed doesn’t cancel out a good deed. But violating the rights of others is more serious, because God won’t forgive those wrongs unless the people themselves forgive first. That’s why many believe that if they die during Hajj or Umrah, God may forgive sins against Him, but not those against people. So they seek forgiveness from others before leaving.
