Does satr include the knees or ends right above the knees according to Ghamidi Sahab? He talks about Satr in this video but it is unclear to me whether he meant knees are included or the part right above the knees are considered satr.

In football, the players were shorts that expose their knees. So does that make playing football and watching FIFA world cup haram, or is knee excluded from satr therefore making football permissible?

It is culturally decided to cover the knees at least. The actual covering id required for the private parts.

But in the video he said the private parts and the area around it should be covered, which for men extends above upto the naval and below to knees

Yes, it should be covered. But there are no religious directives to set the limits. This is what we decided. For reasons, it can be relaxed.

There is no clear verse in the Qur’an or authentic hadith that specifically declares playing or watching football to be haram. In general, many Islamic scholars consider sports like football to be permissible (halal) as long as they do not lead to sinful behavior or cause a person to neglect their religious obligations.

Football can have many benefits, including improving physical health, teamwork, discipline, and social interaction. However, it becomes problematic if it:

    • Causes someone to miss or delay obligatory prayers.

    • Involves gambling, inappropriate behavior, or indecent conduct.

    • Leads to excessive obsession, foul language, violence, or hatred.

    • Results in neglecting family, work, or other important responsibilities.

As with many forms of entertainment, moderation and maintaining Islamic values are key. If football remains a healthy activity that does not interfere with your faith or obligations, many scholars consider it permissible.

    And Allah knows best.
