So I was out, got home just before hanafi time for isha but Shafi time for isha had already come. I wanted to wait for hanafi time for isha but prayed Maghrib immediately ( i was kinda confused myself about whether i was praying combined with isha or not since I dont usually pray isha at Shafi time but do pray asr at Shafi very frequently so I don’t feel like I was praying Maghrib at the correct time either- not usually a problem since I just pray Maghrib pretty early usually ). My question is, If I assume this was combined prayer was it permissible for me to take a gap between Maghrib and isha prayer ?

    You can take a gap.

Sir, is it necessary to have niyat for combined prayer before praying the earlier of the two prayers. For example, can u like pray zuhr but later realize u will not get the opportunity to pray asr so decide to pray it during zuhr timing as combined ?

It has an obvious answer. I hope you can figure it out.

Niyat is not necessary before hand as it makes more practical sense in real life situations??? In my defence, if it’s so obvious sir then why are there conflicting fatwas- surely I’m not so unique huh.
