I understand from Ghamdi sahab’s interpretation that zakat on salary should be similar to zakat on agriculture/livestock – 10% – applied after after gov taxes.

I am a soft engineer, so dont have gov taxes, so intend on paying the 10%.

But i want you to note, that at the end of the year, i usually dont have any savings.

One interesting aspect here is, that it seems this “fixed salary zakat” is not on a “if you can” or “if you have left over” bases, but a fixed amount, whether i have extra from my needs or not.

So this means, i should keep a fixed amount separate from my monthly pay for the zakat.

I was just curious, what did ashaba do?

For example, hazrat Abu Bakr (ra) used to get a fixed pay as the ameer.

From my research, it seems he did not pay any zakat from it, as it was barely enough for his own needs.

But this violates this fixed 10% zakat rule.

    Please guide.

Not every form of income or produce—whether agricultural or from a salary—is subject to zakat. Zakat is only due when the applicable nisab (minimum threshold) is met. The government determines nisab.

In salary, only taxable income is subject to a 10% zakat deduction.
