Use / wearing silk or gold is prohibited for Muslim men as per Sahee Hadith even though Quran does not impose any such prohibition. Respected Ghamidi Saheb on one of his shows explained the reason behind prohibition as display / showing off wealth as these two items in those days were considered status symbol and sign of wealth , affluence, and influence. These days gold & silk have been replaced by ridiculously expensive cars watches etc. If the principle of prohibition for those days was defined then in that case all super luxary things such as mansions, luxary cars, yachts, watches should also be prohibited today. People hide behind the Hadith because it prohibits two items so people driving their Rolls Royces or Ferrari wearing Patek, APs and Rolex’s with mark on their foreheads. What is Respected Ghamidi Saheb’s view on this issue.
