  • Is Smoking Haram?

Is smoking (cigarette and vape) haram? or is it just makrooh or mubaah?

If haram, which ahkaam is it violating?

If not haram, then why do people/ scholars simply claim it to be, and will they be sinful for making a non haram, haram?

To harm oneself and others is haram. If smoking harms, it should be avoided. The intensity of its harmfulness determines whether one should avoid it completely or use it with caution. Here, individual judgment is invited.

When does smoking not harm? the packet itself warns users of the objective harm.

why cant we label these things as haram if theres no aspect good in them especially considering it’s addictive nature.

Where human intellect can decide to avoid a thing, Shariah does not need to interfere.

So one can choose to go against human intellect, and not be held responsible in shari’ah?

If the act harms others, it will make one responsible.

Our body is an Amaanah given to us by Allah and we should treat it with care like we show others.

In Islam, doesn’t harming others and harming oneself come under the same bucket?

So if smoking is harming oneself, even if it makes no difference to anyone else, isn’t he responsible for the self harm, and therefore sinful? especially for something as useless as smoking, which gives no benefits whatsoever other than immediate gratification.

According to your logic driving car is also haram because it emits toxic somke that harm driving person and others as well even animals get affected by its smoke.

smoke from cars is a by-product of something of a greater purpose, whose benefit is much greater than it’s harm.

smoke from cigarettes is the product itself with no real puropse to serve humanity, its a waste of money and a deliberate, single purposed drug, attacking the human body and mind.

If drugs are haram, then smoking should come under the same umbrella, otherwise the same rule of “cocain if done cautiously every once a while, is permisible”, should be applied.

Yes, harming oneself is wrong. The greater the harm one causes to oneself, the greater the sin.

Allah gave us intelligence to use it when determining haram and halal
