The ahadith concerning the prohibition of pictures refer to idolatrous or polytheistic images, rather than to ordinary pictures in general. The criteria for prohibition are laid out in Qur’an 7:33, which identifies five things that can render something haram. Therefore, if none of these prohibited elements is present in a particular thing, it should not be considered haram.
