hey ,i have a question can you explain to me what does ” lowering the gaze” mean .
does this mean i should look away whenever someone isn’t adhering to islamic dress code like for exmaple if man wearing shorts i shouldn’t look at his thighs or if women isn’t wearing hijab i shouldn’t intentionally look at hair like does it mean i shouldn’t look at parts that are conisdered part of awrah .
at first i thought it just mean don’t look sexually but some hadith we man shouldn’t look at another man awrah or you shouldn’t look at thighs ,etc..

It means avoiding an inappropriate way of staring or scanning. It does not mean to keep looking lower on the ground or looking away.

i see , but does it extent to not looking to part that are considered awrah
for example you shouldn’t look at thighs or you should only look at face and hands of women .
because to be honest what some some scholars is you shouldn’t look at parts that are considerd awrah didn’t make much sense to me like obviously non muslim will hair their hair exposed some have open neck while other with exposed cleavage and it just give me impression that i am aiding in sin whenever i watch video or something
like could you elaborate on this if it okay cuz online sources other than that make me feel fearful ranging from you shouldn’t look at women at all to only looking at her hand and face ofc i don’t mean any sexual or weird gaze or something that but it just that even looking at parts that doesn’t adhere to islamic dress code even normal look are considered sinful ofc we aren’t staring at people private at all and i know the issue of hijab is already complicated so while i am confused about traditional dress code i just use it as placeholder cuz the issue of hijab is a bit complicated i mean sure if someone want to go with majority it everything but face and hands they have their right to belive in that but me personally i am confused as much as it is.
