Sir, I’d like to ask… is it permissible to elect a leader of a community from among non-Muslims?
I know this isn’t about religious leaders; I’m talking about leaders like governors or presidents—that sort of thing. Because, if I’m not mistaken, a scholar once said that as Muslims, we must elect a Muslim leader, not a non-Muslim—he said that’s haram.
Of course, I would choose a leader who I believe performs well and does not discriminate based on ethnicity or religion.
