  • Tawatur As A Criteria

It is said that ijama and tawatur is the only reliable criteria to authenticate the years old religious tradition or books…..

Even hindus also claim that their religious traditions and holy hymns like veds have travelled into the society through ijmah and tawatur…..if tawatur in their tradition is established reliably….how would someone deny their religious traditions as true..

Tawatur is reporting. It can be a false idea. If the Vedas were transmitted through ijma and tawtur, it does not prove they were from God.

But Hindus do not claim that they were transmitted through ijma and tawatur.

As far as I think, in Ijma an overwhelming majority agrees on some event or incident. Such an agreement is not possible if the event is not true. Tawatur is a criteria that the event is transmitted from day one, without any interruption through all generations to this day. Overwhelmingly majority agrees in the event in all generations (from day one up to date) Examples are Quran and Sunnah.

Ijma and tawatur can establish the widespread transmission of a report, but not necessarily its factual truth. Stories created by poets or playwrights can also be transmitted through ijma and tawatur; Plato’s ideas and Shakespeare’s plays are examples. It is the nature and content of a report that determine whether it represents a historical event, an idea, or a work of fiction.
