  • Jum’Ah Prayer

Until now, I’ve been attending Friday prayers simply as a routine religious ritual, but lately I’ve had some questions about Friday prayers. Please guide me!

    1. Friday prayers are often equated with the five daily prayers. My question is: Is there a verse in the Quran or a hadith of the Prophet that explains this?

    2. Why is it said that if someone misses Friday prayers three times, they are no longer considered a Muslim?

Friday prayer is not equated with five times prayer, in Deen. Every prayer has its own place.

In the time of the prophet presence in the Friday prayer was a sign to determine who was a true Muslims and a hypocrite. That was why it was declared that who would not attend Friday prayer for three consecutive occasions he might be a hypocrite.

So that’s how it is… Then, for example, if someone doesn’t pray the Friday prayer and only prays the Zuhr prayer, is that okay?

If a Muslim state organize the Friday prayer, as it is in Arab countries, it is obligation to attend the Friday prayer, however if one has a valid excuse, he can be expected.

If the state doesn’t organise it then it is not necessary to attend the Friday prayer.

What do you mean by “the government organizing it”?

What I mean is, I always attend Friday prayers as usual; there’s no local organization or government body that mandates Friday prayers—it’s entirely up to each individual.

So I don’t quite understand what you mean when you say there’s a government rule requiring us to attend Friday prayers. If there is a government rule, does that mean we’re obligated to follow it?

Hmm, I still don’t quite understand.

Why is it up to the government to decide whether Friday prayers are mandatory or not? I mean, if I’m not mistaken, there’s a verse in the Quran that discusses Friday prayers and explains that people must stop trading and go to the mosque for Friday prayers. So could you explain in detail why it’s up to the government to decide whether Friday prayers are mandatory or not?
