Divine Trials Or The Consequences Of Our Actions?
I have a question about a verse in the Qur’an in which Allah says, “Whatever calamity befalls you is because of what your own hands have earned, and He pardons much.”
Could you explain the difference between a trial from God and the consequences of wrongdoing?
For example, if our ancestors did something wrong and, as a result, we face difficulties today, such as inherited genetic disorders, should these difficulties be considered trials from God or the consequences of our ancestors’ actions?
Similarly, when a person commits adultery and a child is born as a result, our society often labels that child as “illegitimate.” But why should the child be given such a label? What is the child’s fault? The child had no control over the circumstances of their birth. If the child is innocent, why should they carry the shame or social consequences of their parents’ actions? Does this not raise a deeper question about personal responsibility, justice, and whether one person should bear the consequences of another person’s wrongdoing?
