Prophet's Daughter Fatima's Anger With Abu Bakr
Hi,
I want to know did Prophet’s daughter Fatima die angry with Abu Bakr for Abu Bakr’s refusal to give her the inheritance share ?
My question is : if this was the rule that Prophet’s inheritance shouldn’t be received by his own daughter, why didn’t Fatima know about this rule earlier and when informed by Abu Bakr, why did she become angry with him and didn’t speak to him till her death ?
Some hadiths to support this view :
Volume 8, Book 80, Number 718 :
Narrated by ‘Aisha
Fatima and Al ‘Abbas came to Abu Bakr, seeking their share from the property of Allah’s Apostle and at that time, they were asking for their land at Fadak and their share from Khaibar. Abu Bakr said to them, ” I have heard from Allah’s Apostle saying, ‘Our property cannot be inherited, and whatever we leave is to be spent in charity, but the family of Muhammad may take their provisions from this property.” Abu Bakr added, “By Allah, I will not leave the procedure I saw Allah’s Apostle following during his lifetime concerning this property.” Therefore Fatima left Abu Bakr and did not speak to him till she died.
Narrated by ‘Aisha
The Prophet said, “Our (Apostles’) property should not be inherited, and whatever we leave, is to be spent in charity.”
Narrated by Abu Huraira
Allah’s Apostle said, “Not even a single Dinar of my property should be distributed (after my deaths to my inheritors, but whatever I leave excluding the provision for my wives and my servants, should be spent in charity.”

It had to do w/ different interpretation of Kums directive in the Quran.
One believed Khums was there due to Prophet (AS)’s role as leader of the state and other believed Khums was specific for the family of the Prophet (AS) and applies even after his demise.

Sohail Sahab has rightly pointed out that it was a misunderstanding regarding Maal-e-fai on which Abu Bakar (rta) made the right decision on the basis of a clear diective of Quran. It would remain state owned property with a portion allocated to family of the Prophet (sws) without giving direct ownership to them.

Are we saying that Ali and Fatima didn’t know this rule ? They got angry with Abu Bakr despite him doing the right thing? She remained so angry that she didn’t talk to Abu Bakr for her entire life (6 months) over an inheritance matter ..
There is a hadith which has Prophet saying whoever angers Fatima angers him too.

My question is, where did this rule of Prophet’s inheritance not being distributed to his own family (his daughter mainly) get mentioned in the inheritance distribution verses ? If it is mentioned by Prophet then was it known to all the people ? If yes, how did Ali and Fatima not know it ?

I am asking this question, because Abu Bakr already knew that he was going to go to heaven.. so when he took this decision, it means Ali and Fatima should have known it was approved by Allah, as Abu Bakr was promised heaven already. If they got angry with him, and thus it would anger Prophet also, so it means that one can enter heaven even after angering Prophet.

This reasoning is flawed. The prophet ﴾ﷺ﴿ would’ve accepted Abu bakr’s رضي الله عنه justice. People can get unjustly angry or still do wrong deeds- it doesn’t mean they won’t enter heaven

Then what does it mean by Prophet that whoever angered Fatima will anger him ?

You can’t just take a statement in a vacuum- many of us say things like this and then another time we change our minds

It is very clearly a very common, simple use and figure of speech.
It can be said to express love, sometimes when angry people say you are not my son- do they mean get out of my house and never come back?
People say I love you more than my own life- does that mean that he wants to die?

But this matter was not a simple naraazgi.. it was the matter which made Fatima very angry and she remained angry with Abu Bakr till her death.

So we have to see if the anger was justified or not. From my reading above apparently it was not.

Well I don’t know I haven’t researched . But if it was all humans make mistakes

How are you sure who among Fatima and Abu Bakr was committing mistake ?

Well I’m not- you should ask someone well versed in this matter. It depends on what the disagreement was and if we have proof to make a judgement

It is one matter that either Caliph Abu Bakr or Hazarat Fatima understood the verse of inheritance and Prophet’s message on it incorrectly, surely both can’t be right here. I am sure that if those hadith is true, Hazarat Fatima must have known it..
However, is it justified that Hazarat Fatima remains angry due to just this matter of inheritance, so much that she denied him the right to attend even her funeral ? Such type of anger can’t just be on some piece of land, specially not expected from one of the 4 best pious women.

Coming to the narrations, there are some narrations which tell us that Hazrat Fatima (rta) came to terms with Hazrat Abu Bakr (rta) before Her death and it was all sorted out. Therefore, narration on funeral stands in contradiction with these narrations.

There can be mistakes committed by any person other than a prophet in religious matters in his/her capacity as a human being. This mistake can be an honest mistake in misinterpreting an application of a practical matter, it is quite a natural phenomenon. The same appears to be the case here. What Abu Bakr (rta) did was in line with Quranic Directive. Umar (rta), Usman(rta) and Ali (rta) they all followed the same policy with regards to Fadak so there was no disagreement with regards to application of this principle at a state level. A misunderstanding of a matter has no bearing on piety of someone, they are mutually exclusive things.
