  • Can God Know Future Which Is Not Created Yet ?

Posted by Sameer Bhagwat on August 6, 2020 at 3:07 am

We hear all the time that God knows everything, does it mean that God even knows the future which is not created yet or does God only know all the created events which have happened already?

If creation of the future is a human work, and not pre-decided by God at the time of creation of universe, does it mean that the humans have the free will to change the future ?

OR did God already create everything which will happen and we are just robots in that timeline ?

As humans we think of everything in the confines of time and space. However, when we try to measure God in the same confines, we run into such paradoxes.

God is the Creator. He has created everything including time and space, hence His own existence and His knowledge is beyond them. Please see Quran 57:2-3.

As humans we have been granted free will, and our choices determine the future. However, from the viewpoint of God, there’s no past, present, or future – these are concepts that are dependent on time. His knowledge encompasses everything, and He can intervene in the matters of the world whenever He wishes to do so.

Does it mean God changes the future too based on our Dua ?

That means God’s actions are influenced by the believers’ demand, and is not fixed prior to it.

After we have understood that God is free from the confines of time and that we as humans cannot conceive concepts of timelessness and infinity, this kind of questions are irrelevant and immaterial.

Question is relevant because we need to observe the reality from human perspective only.

Yes, but as I stated earlier, human perspective is limited and we cannot conceive the concepts of timelessness and infinity. If after understanding that, one still thinks that they need to understand whether the actions of a timeless entity are fixed prior to some event, then they are dealing with an irrelevant and an immaterial question that they will never find an answer to.
