Yesterday a brother killed his 19 years old sister in Karachi because she was talking to her Neighbour. In the last few years 510 women have been killed for honour killing in Pakistan, and only 19 have been convicted by court. Can some one please help me to understand why is this happening. ? The Qur’an in Surah Nur has laid down the rules of interaction between men and women. Where do fathers, brothers even some husbands come up with the honour killing justification? Fathers have killed their daughters for marrying out of their choice. You hear of such cases even among the parents settled in the West. There at least the government takes action. There was a very known case of a father (very well educated) and mother coming into court and killing their daughter in front of her lawyer because she was marrying some one of her own choice. This is one of the biggest evil I know and an extremely serious problem giving a very bad name to Islam.

Are they getting this permission from some misinterpreted Hadith? Can some one shed a light on this. Thank you

    6. And those who accuse their wives [of adultery] and have no witnesses except themselves – then the witness of one of them [shall be] four testimonies [swearing] by Allah that indeed, he is of the truthful.7. And the fifth [oath will be] that the curse of Allah be upon him if he should be among the liars.

    8. But it will prevent punishment from her if she gives four testimonies [swearing] by Allah that indeed, he is of the liars.

    9. And the fifth [oath will be] that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he was of the truthful.

So according to these verses and Hadith even a husband is not allowed to kill his wife for honour. So The father, brother and son are not allowed in Pakistan people do this due to ignorance and it’s a cultural thing It has no religion base.

Further more Islam has given every man and woman Permission to choose their life partner. We respect the parents wishes but is honour killing justified or allowed?

I agree but we can’t stop it and the State who is suppose to safe guard our lives appears helpless

Honour killing comes from the fact that a girl is the honour of her family, and if she chooses to live her life by herself and not be obedient to the men in her life, it will dishonor the family, and she is fit to be killed.

It is not part of Islam, but it is influenced by the thinking that a woman is supposed to obey the men in her life.
