    Salam – The two major philosophical branches of Islam, Asha’ira and Mu’tazila had completely opposing views as it relates to “morality”.

    Asha’ira believed that good is good because God says so, Mu’tazila believe good is intrinsically good, and God only confirms good.

    The objective nature of “basic morality” is explained on this thread, pls. take a look. Thanks

    I think that good is good because our nature is programmed to recognize it as such. When we consciously do anything good, we might be doing it for others, but in fact we are tapping into our own human potential and materializing it to rise in the ranks. Evil is just the opposite.

    On the topic of moral ethics there is a great course by Harvard University’s Michael Sandel. I highly recommend this to people who are interested in the topic and learn how philosophers have historically viewed moral ethics.
