It is estimated that yearly about 150 Pakistani women have acids thrown on theIt faces by dejected suitors, or husbands or in-laws Most of the time this heinous crime goes un punished. A young woman is scarred for life. There was an excellent documentary ” Saving Faces” by Sharmin Obaid where a Pakistani American Plastic surgeon came to Pakistan and spent months operating on 5 such women to restore their faces

Also many times disgruntled mother in laws or husbands will burn their daughter in laws or wives and claim they caught fire accidentally whilst cooking!

Do we have a remedy for such heinous crimes against women?

This happens commonly in India as well.. nothing specific to Pakistan.

Even if the perpetrators are punished the women are scarred for life. How can one prevent this and isn’t the State responsible for giving an exemplary punishment to the parties involved?

Where ever it happens it needs to be stopped and the perpetrators given such a severe punishment so that no woman ever has to be scarred for life. To me it is a crime like murder because you have taken the woman’s life away permanently. The State has to pass a law against this and make sure it is implemented. Problem is no action is taken and this heinous crime continues.

Yes, you are right.. however I don’t see any relation of it with respect to Islam or other religions..

Qur’an or Hadith doesn’t talk about acid burning/wife burning etc. because it might not be prevalent in 7th century Arabia.

      This is a social issue.
