Righteousness is all about giving the rights of the relationships that we have in this world in the best possible manner. Our relationships extend from ourselves and our immediate families to our relatives, neighbors, society and humanity in general. There is one relationship that is missing from this list and that is our relationship with our Creator. Like other relationships, this relationship also demands some rights of its own. A righteous person who is going above and beyond in fulfilling the rights of all relationships cannot forget the rights emerging from this important relationship. A person who is “righteous” in all relationships but oblivious of His Lord either does not understand this relationship or does not believe in God at all.
