i would like to know the importance of fasting on the 10th moharram so called day of ashoora. my understanding so far is that muslim keep this fasting to show the solidarity with our Jews cousin, because they were freed from slavery of pharaoh , when prophet Moses took them across the red sea. we know the full story. but the question is this fasting recommended by our prophet, so is it part of deen. Jews were freed on that day. on the flip side the same thing happening to our Palestinians brothers. they are being slaved by the same nation, who we are showing solidarity with. is this not hypocrisy.

    thanks

Yes, it is recommended by the Prophet (sws) as an optional/nafl Ibadah, not to show solidarity with jews of today but to thank Allah for His blessing on Moses (AS) and Muslims of that time (followers of Moses (AS)). There were no jews at that time.

If fasting was done only for prophet Moses, so why on the day of ashhoora 10th morrham, the day of liberation for Jews. It could have been on any other day. If it was meant as a blessing on Moses. Does not make much sense.
