  • Did Adam عليه السلام Have Parents?

    Ghamidi sahab tafsir of 3:59

    As-Sajdah – 32:7

    Arabic

    ٱلَّذِىٓ أَحۡسَنَ كُلَّ شَىۡءٍ خَلَقَهُۥۖ وَبَدَأَ خَلۡقَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنِ مِن طِينٍ

    As-Sajdah – 32:8

    Arabic

    ثُمَّ جَعَلَ نَسۡلَهُۥ مِن سُلَٰلَةٍ مِّن مَّآءٍ مَّهِينٍ

    As-Sajdah – 32:9

This means that the pre human humanoid animal had the ability of reproduction before the spirit was breathed into them. So doesn’t this mean Adam عليه السلام had parents? Otherwise it should be the spirit was breathed then the progeny was made from a despised liquid

And if this ability of procreation was present in other humanoids then where are their progenies? Are they apes?

I have similar confusions related to tafseer of ayat 3:59 and creation of mankind as per Ghamidi sb explanation. If his explanation of the creation of mankind as per Quran is taken into consideration than one can infer that prophet Adam (pbuh) did have parents. However, the tafseer of ayat 3:59 says he didn’t have any parents. Did he provide any explanation to this ?

In loose terms, Adam and Eve (AS) did have biological parents, but those parents lacked the most important factor which differentiates an animal from a human being i.e. ‘nafkh-e-ruh’. It is this direct process of ‘nafkh-e-ruh’ for Adam and Eve (AS) that those biological parents cannot be considered as their actual parents. That is why our history as being a human being starts from Adam and Eve (AS) and not before. It is the same commonality between Adam (AS) and Jesus (AS) i.e. direct process of ‘nafkh-e-ruh’, both were the direct recipients of this process without any human barrier in between, which makes them similar to each other; and hence, both of them had no father in essence.

That still doesn’t mean the parents didn’t exist

      @UmerQureshi

If Adam عليه السلام had parents then 3:59 must have another meaning.

I don’t see why it would be different if the parents had a ruh or not

3:59 is explaining Allah’s ability to create his creation without need for any one particular medium/process. Allah can create Adam (AS) from clay (by going through the process of His choosing), similarly Allah can create Jesus(AS) without any intervention of father in his creation. And so Allah will eventually resurrect all human beings one day, this is all within Allah’s Qudrat and upto Allah’s mashiyat at what process He chooses.

Whether parents having ‘ruh’ makes a difference or not has been answered by God himself when He called Adam (AS) and Eve (AS) the first human beings and our first parents. The lineage of human race started from Adam (AS) and Eve (AS) in the eyes of God Himself. So it makes all the difference in the world.
