  • Is بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم A Part Of The Fatiha?

Posted by A Hasan on September 9, 2020 at 10:19 am

Is the beginning بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم a part of any surah or just a tradition? Is the fact that it is not written for surah tawbah a divine choice or one of humans?

To Ghamidi Sahib, Tasmiyah is not the part of Surah Fatiha. It is here as it is in the beginning of every surah. The reason behind absence of Tasmiya before Surah Tawbah is explained by Ghamidi Sahib in his annotation Albayan that the Surah starts with an air of wrath and it was not befitting to mention Tasmiya which is a declaration of mercy.

So the humans saw it not befitting to add the Basmalah. It is just a tradition

No human could add a word to it. it was transmitted as it is without Bismillah in the beginning of Surah Tawbah.

(In my previous response, “The sruah starts..” means Surah Tawbah. )

The Basmalah is either a part of the Quran or not. If it is part of the fatiha or any other surah then it is part of the Quran. If it is not part of the fatiha it any other surah then it is not part of the Quran. If it was revealed with بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم then it must be part of the Quran surely?

This verse occurs at the start of every surah except Surah al-Tawbahin the same manner as it occurs here. Consequently, though it is certainly a verse of the Qur’an and was revealed in this manner at the beginning of its surahs and written at the behest of the Almighty, it is not a part of any surah including Surah Fatihah.

Sir if you don’t mind- what is the proof that it holds this special status?

  • Dr. Irfan Shahzad

    Its placement before every Surah.

Why can’t that mean that it is part of every surah? Is it also to with sunnah that it wasn’t transmitted that we read بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم before fatiha in prayer?

Bismillah is recited before every good or lawful act we do. Does it make it a part of every act, for example eating, drinking or a sermon? So it is there for its own special status.
