Anything you read Surah Fateha , Surah Yasin, Surah Rahman etc the sawab goes to yourself not the deceased person. For the deceased we should only pray for his maghfirat. This is a very common practice in the sub continent that reading Surah Fateha for some one who has died the sawab goes to him. This is not correct. You cannot transfer sawab to any one!

I Know the transfer of sawab thing. But people recite surah fateha as a dua too and we can make dua for deceased one but in surah fateha we make dua for ourselves that’s the thing i wanted to clarify. @UmerQureshi

You’re right Wasif Sahab! Surah Fateha relates to the person reciting it, and also it relates to the person who is alive and is asking for help and strength from Allah to stay on the right path and to further solidify his beliefs. There is no sense in associating this dua with the dead ones. Instead, the duas narrated from Prophet Muhammad (sws) for the dead ones are very relevant and have divine wordings in them w.r.t their appropriateness and relationship with the situation at hand.
