Nuh عليه السلام Lived For 950 Years?
Posted by A Hasan on September 21, 2020 at 6:00 pmWhy did Allah use two different words for year in the ayah:
Al-‘Ankabut – 29:14
Arabic
وَلَقَدۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦ فَلَبِثَ فِيهِمۡ أَلۡفَ سَنَةٍ إِلَّا خَمۡسِينَ عَامًا فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱلطُّوفَانُ وَهُمۡ ظَٰلِمُونَ

During normal social interactions like shopping and others, you can experience this kind of usloob (not too frequent, but it does exist and people are cognizant of this usloob)

Could you just give like the words or a sentence?

Also, in Arabic, the former is used for period of trial and troubles and the latter for relief and prosperity. we can assume the it tells that 950 years of Noah’s preaching were very hard on him while the rest of the 50 years which he did not have to spend were a relief.

So what does this use of different vocabulary entail for any meaning that we would extract?
Unless it’s not used in this sense and it just means year.
