  • A Query Regarding The Placement Of Surahs

Posted by Sheharbano Ali on October 2, 2020 at 9:27 am

Without Iman, Islam doesn’t mean anything except rituals. Quran starts from Surah Fatiha which is the essence of Iman and a perfect summarisation of the Hikmah/Philosophical component of deen.

However, immediately after Surah Baqarah is placed. With very basic and essential principles found in it relating to the hikmah part, we also see that it contains the Kitab (law) part most comprehensively.

Im finding the answer to why not all the Surahs containing the Hikmah part were placed in the beginning so that the focus was on instilling Iman in a human being. If not that, then why the Surah containing the Shariah/Kitab part placed in the beginning of the Quran?

All the placement has been made giving due regard to Quran’s ‘Sarguzisht-e-Inzaar’ status. If you look at whole of the Quran from this perspective, then placement of Surahs make utmost sense. However, if you break it down into components of Al-Hikmah and Al-Kitaab, and try to analyze placement of Surahs as independent components of Al-Hikmah and Al-Kitaab, then this question would fairly arise. But the Quran’s ‘Sarguzisht-e-Inzaar’ status takes precedence over Al-Hikmah and Al-Kitaab as separate units, because the latter can be absorbed into the former but not vice versa.

Correct. Now it all makes sense viewing it from the lens of Surguzasht e Inzaar!

Adding to this, also viewing Quran as the final testament and the last book, not the first.
