Namaz has some compulsory acts and recitations. These are sunnah and have been transmitted to us through ijma and tawatur. There are also several things in namaz that are left for every individual to perform as they please. These are not sunnah. The differences among the prayer of men and women as they’re generally practiced fall in this latter category.
