Many Muslim clerics claim that stretching your legs in the direction of Qibla is a sin in Islam. If this is not true, what is the punishment of those who spread lies in the name of any prophet ?

    JazakAllah,

We agree with Ghamdi Sahib. Actually I wanted to ask when we are not physically in or near Masjid al Haram but in any other location worldwide eg in Europe, US. I wanted to seek guidance in that regard. There is a mosque and ancient sacred places of worship in every direction on earth.

Kaaba is the center of all our mosques and holds this position till the day of Judgement on direction of God Himself. Rest of the places/mosques do not hold this status and are in fact directed towards kaaba themselves. Therefore, we out of respect try not to spread legs in its direction irrespective of the location we are residing. But this doesn’t constitute a religious directive and should be considered a matter of etiquette only.
