  • Quran 2:183 Prescription Of Fasting

Nouman Ali Khan said in one of his Arabic classes (it is a paid class so I shouldn’t share it here) that ayaamun ma3doodatin means limited days with the implication of less than 10 days. He went on to say that Ramadan is 30 days, so this was the prescription of fasting which was before, which was only the middle three days of the months.

Does this mean that it is prescribed to fast in the middle of the days?

If not, then what about the use of ayaamun ma3doodatin?

There is not context to lead us to think otherwise that the few days are not the day of Ramdan.

The reason here to call the full month as a few days, is to encourage the audience to keep fast for this small period. We use this expression in our language too to make a somewhat longer period as shorter to make it less tedious. Moreover, the ruling of make up fasting in other days if missed during the prescribed days for some reason, rules out possibility of any other fast, because no other fasting is mandatory.

for such a context, when preceding and following verses are dealing with the same topic, an exception needs to be well defined, which is not the case here.

He said when معدودات is written instead of معدودہ it is used for less than 10 days. So i was wondering the same thing about it if this rule holds than it contradicts the saying about ramadan.
