When there is a certain commandment that we don’t understand fully why we have to do it- or we find it a bit harsh like the whipping of the adulterer what does religion tell us to do? Do we just blindly accept it with the attitude of ‘God knows better’?

It is only logical to follow every command of Lord when you’ve rationally reached this conclusion that there indeed is a creator of this universe and Quran His Book. But when you look at every command to see rationale behind it, there is nothing irrational about Islamic punishments prescribed, when one fully understands what are those punishments and what are limitations and circumstances under which such punishments should be given. Lashing an adulterer is not an absolute punishment, it has many conditions attached to it which do not counter rationality. Same is the case with circumcision, there is definitely a very significant aspect of tazkiya attached to it.
