“Bowing down before Adam (sws) was meant to pay respect to him and was done at the bidding of the Almighty. Consequently, there is no element of polytheism in it. It was for two reasons that the Almighty had tested the obedience of the angels in such a manner: firstly, real success does not depend upon the substance of one’s creation; whether someone is created from light or from fire, the real thing is obedience to the Almighty; hence Adam (sws) too at all instances must overcome his false pride to submit to the truth. Secondly, Adam (sws) must realize that when the Almighty elevated him to such a position that the angels bowed down before him, then it is not all befitting for him to worship a creation however much superior to him by granting it divine status along with the Almighty. It is only befitting to serve and worship God. If he associates someone with Him, he not only shows disrespect to the Almighty but to himself as well.” From Al-Bayan by Javed Ghamidi.
ہ سجدہ تعظیم کے لیے تھا اور اللہ تعالیٰ کے حکم سے ہوا، اِس لیے اِس میں شرک کا کوئی پہلو نہیں ہے۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرشتوں کی اطاعت کا یہ امتحان جس وجہ سے لیا، وہ یہ تھی کہ اولاً، آدم پر واضح ہو جائے کہ اصلی سرفرازی نور یا نار سے پیدا ہونے میں نہیں ہے، بلکہ اللہ تعالیٰ کی اطاعت اور فرماں برداری میں ہے۔ لہٰذا اُسے بھی اپنی انانیت کو ایک طرف رکھ کر ہمیشہ حق کے سامنے سرتسلیم خم کر دینا چاہیے۔ ثانیاً، وہ یہ سمجھ لے کہ اُسے جب اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ درجہ دیا ہے کہ فرشتوں نے اُس کو سجدہ کیا تو یہ بات کسی طرح اُس کے شایان شان نہیں ہے کہ وہ کسی برتر سے برتر مخلوق کو بھی خدا کا شریک سمجھ کر اُس کی پرستش کرے۔ بندگی اور پرستش اللہ تعالیٰ ہی کا حق ہے۔ وہ اگر اِس حق میں کسی کو شریک کرتا ہے تو صرف اللہ تعالیٰ ہی کی اہانت نہیں کرتا، بلکہ خود اپنی بھی اہانت کرتا ہے۔
Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 34:
And [to understand the trial of man in Our scheme, also narrate to them the incident] when We asked the angels to bow down to Adam and they bowed down exceptIblis.He refused and showed arrogance and in this manner became among the rejecters.
Surah Bani-Israel, Verse 61:
(اِس کی وجہ اِس کے سوا کچھ نہیں کہ اِنھوں نے ابلیس کی راہ اختیار کر لی ہے)۔ اِنھیں یاد دلاؤ، جب ہم نے فرشتوں سے کہا تھا کہ آدم کو سجدہ کرو تو وہ سب سجدہ ریز ہو گئے، مگر ابلیس نہیں ہوا۔ اُس نے کہا: کیا میں اُس کو سجدہ کروں جسے تو نے مٹی سے پیدا کیا ہے؟
