In Quranic perspecive, Quran 49:13
O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous1 of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Aware.Only advantage is u can recognise each other or get sense of belonging.
The biggest disadvantage which come with nationalism/ tribalism is pride/arrogance/ego etc which lead to unnecessary voilence, injustice, war etc. -

The Quran (49:13) says:
Mankind! We have created you from a male and female, and made you into peoples and tribes, so that you might come to know each other.
This term ‘peoples’ in this verse indicates groups that are derived from sharing a common homeland, while the term ‘tribes’ indicates groups based on racial commonality. According to the Quran, both of these types of grouping of people are simply for the sake of knowing each other, not for indicating relationships of belief or religion

In my opinion Nationalism has great benefits. It brings feeling of community, pride, mutual effort, identity, culture and more. All this is excellent and within Islam’s guidance.
Nationalism becomes unIslamic, when it becomes a source of undue pride. When it is used to consider others as inferior. When the pride becomes so unrealistic that people become unable to criticize themselves and unable to identify their own issues. Nationalism becomes issue when it turn into xenophobia.
