    If one drinks alcohol, he’s prohibited from going near the prayer. But how long should he keep away from prayer? I have a friend who commits consuming alcohol sometimes. And whenever after, I ask him to come to mosque for prayer, he says he can’t. He refers to a Hadith which states that since after consuming alcohol, a person’s prayer will not be accepted for the next 40 days,

    So he takes this Hadith as an excuse for not going masjid or to say prayer. While he should be aware of not consuming Alcohol at first place.

    Quran 5:91

    Translation by Asad

    By means of intoxicants and games of chance Satan seeks only to sow enmity and hatred among you, and to turn you away from the remembrance of God and from prayer. Will you not, then, desist?
