This Hadith may not be authentic and the number 73 may not be correct, but Muslims seems to be splitting into many groups. Allah in Quran used severe words for those who create sects and divisions between Muslims. For this reason I wanted to understand how Islam defines a sect. Is it a group with different school of thought, a group from Abrahimic religion who started doing Shirk ( as Christians) or sect is just the hatred of other Muslims from different school of thought. I haven’t received a comprehensive or a clear answer yet.

Islam doesn’t define sects. As I shared with you in a prior message, Quran talks about sects depending on the addressees.
