Why were people wary of doing tawaaf of safa and marwa and not things like salah? Why does the Quran only comment on the latter being acceptable in 2:158 most likely in response to the cautions but says nothing about salah which the pagans of Arabia would have been supposedly praying?

Safa and Marwa were made places of idol worshiping so Allah made it clear that you should do Tawwaff of Safa and Marwa.

while Quran did comment on their Salah that they had made their prayer whistling and clapping and that they are neglectful of their prayers.

Yes but they also worshipped idols in Kaaba so why isn’t tawaaf of Kaaba mentioned? Why isn’t salah mentioned because they prayed to idols also. As far as I was told salah ‘inda albayt is tawaaf not namaz
