    A philosophical question…

In Quran, all promises believers numerous times to guide them to the straight path. So for those Muslims who sincerely ask Allah’s for guidance, perform prayers, avoid sins and struggle to find the truth, it doesn’t seem possible that they could fall on the wrong path?

Considering that such sincere people asking for Allah’s guidance may be following various scholars, following various school of thoughts and using various methods to seek Allah’s guidance. Then it doesn’t seem logical that a scholar is right and the other is wrong, a school of thought is right and other is wrong, an interpretation of Quran by one scholar is correct and other is wrong.

On the other hand, they can’t be all correct and incorrect at the same time.

Quran has addressed God’s law of guidance. It requires one to not only seek guidance, but also to patiently work towards it rising above emotions and completely submitting to the truth as and when it manifests itself – regardless of where it comes from. It’s not an easy task by any stretch of imagination. A lot of times we deny the truth without even realizing it.

As humans, we have desires, ego, arrogance, biases, prejudices, hatred, and a world of emotions as well as reasons for attachment to this world. Most of us value tradition and our existing beliefs a lot more over clear evidence. Sincerely asking is definitely an important step, however, not the only one. A lot of people, whether Muslims or Non-Muslims sincerely seek guidance, however, not everyone is open and willing to pay the price of accepting it.

Videos in the below discussion go into ample detail about God’s law of guidance. I think it’s one of the most important things to understand.

Perhaps the question wasn’t clear. If you can elaborate I can try to address it.

Faisal, lets make sure first we have alignment on the understanding of guidance. Then we’ll turn towards the question.

To me guidance is when someone, even a non-Muslim, sincerely starts looking for one god and asking such unknown god for guidance. As soon as a person does that Allah starts creating circumstances for the person to bump into right people and right sources of information that lead him to Allah and better understanding of his will.

I agree with Umer Qureshi’s (moderator) statement “Moreover, once a person attains the age of intellectual maturity, the signs of the heavens and the earth around him direct his attention to this guidance.”

I felt the above at the age of 40, but did no feel the innate knowledge of one god or knowledge of right and wrong. For example, Zina is a major sin in Islam, but you can talk to thousands of people in Western countries and they will honestly tell you that they do not feel that having a physical relationship between two consenting adult is wrong. Why¿ Why don’t atheists people hear an inner voice that there is one god¿

For future please create one discussion per topic. When you create multiple discussions on a very similar question, it’s hard to respond to both at the same time.

There’s no inner voice that there’s one God. Any rational being can infer God.
