  • Comprehensive Definition Of Biddat

Posted by Muhammad Abdullah on March 16, 2021 at 11:52 pm

In accordance with Surah e Ahraff Ayat 33 where Almighty Allah has explained that what things are forbidden in relation with ehics in Islam, the fourth thing is saying things on Allah for which you have no knowledge i.e. the things that are not proven from any source of Islam and you have no evidence regarding those things, are completely forbidden. In my point of view this is the correct definition of term “Bidah”. The Ayah 33 of Surah e Araf is:

Agreed! The confusion occurs when justifications are made for a certain things whereas other things are regarded as Bidat even if those acts are considered to be optional and not associated with the messenger PBUH. The definition that is provided in the detailed response of Mr. Sajid Hameed as shared by @UmerQureshi , has this confusion in it. That is why I referred to the specific examples which are mentioned in those responses.

Jzk for that. If you notice, my thread incorporates those points. I had confusion even after reading that detailed response hence, used the references from that as well.

Jzk for this. I’d really appreciate a response from him answering those concerns.

From the videos that you shared 2 key points were taken away

1: Anything new related to religion without having association with prophet PBUH is bidat

2: Any optional good religious act when transformed into a congregational act is bidat.

After this, I’d again refer to the original examples as below for the ease to understand the questions and answering them

1: Dua after congregational prayer was (occasionally) done by prophet. This act, when done nowadays, is termed as Bidat even though it is proved (to the satisfaction) from prophet.

2: Taraweeh is an individual and optional religious act. When this was transformed into a congregational act then why it is not termed as a Bidat as per according to the 2nd key point by Ghamidi shb himself (listed above)

3: Jumma is already a congregational act and has certain requirements. Then why this change, which is not at individual level, is not termed as Bidat but merely considered an application of rule of tayamum when clearly this can be seen that this is (1) an introduction of a new thing in a religious act (2) at a congregational level.

Hence, the definitions of either adding a new thing or transforming an optional religious act into a congregational form fail in these examples and this requires a concrete definition which doesn’t leave a space for any justification for certain acts which are then not termed as Bidat.

@UmerQureshi , Wanted to circle back if Mr. @hassan or some other scholar had a chance to look into this?

      Jzk!

This helps clearing the confusion of tagging Dua after prayer to be Bidah. Turned out it’s only the logical fallacy instead of Bidah.

Thanks a lot for sharing this.
