Would the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم be considered a martyr. If so we can’t say that he is dead in the normal sense.

    Sahih Muslim – 5705

Anas reported that a Jewess came to Allah’s Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) with poisoned mutton and he took of that what had been brought to him (Allah’s Messenger). (When the effect of this poison were felt by him) he called for her and asked her about that, whereupon she said:

I had determined to kill you. Thereupon he said: Allah will never give you the power to do it. He (the narrator) said that they (the Companion’s of the Holy Prophet) said: Should we not kill her? Thereupon he said: No. He (Anas) said: I felt (the affects of this poison) on the uvula of Allah’s Messenger.

This shows how he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) was protected from all the people, as Allah said (interpretation of the meaning): “Allah will protect you from mankind”[al-Maa’idah 5:67]. This is a miracle of the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), as he was protected from the poison that killed others.

What he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said does not mean that the poison was the cause of his death; rather the report indicates that he was feeling it and that that might coincide with the end of his life.

Hmm this is an interesting discussion. How did the prophet Of course the poison would’ve had some effect surely

As per Qur’anic verse 5:67, Prophet Muhammad were protected from mankind. This is exactly what happened, Prophet Muhammad pbuh were protected by Allah from the poison. He pbuh died 4 years after that incident.

That seems to be about before the message had been conveyed and the duties of prophethood were still to be completed perhaps. I may be wrong
