The correct source to determine 5 salats is the sunnah of the prophets, not the Quran.

    For Fajr, Maghrib and Isha:

    Qur’an 11:114

Saheeh: And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and at the approach of the night. Indeed, good deeds do away with misdeeds. That is a reminder for those who remember.

    For ASR:

Saheeh: Maintain with care the [obligatory] prayers and [in particular] the middle prayer and stand before Allah, devoutly obedient.

    Qur’an 2:238

    For ZUHR:

    Qur’an 30:18

Saheeh: And to Him is [due all] praise throughout the heavens and the earth. And [exalted is He] at night and when you are at noon.

Additionally, for ASR, Maghrib, and Fajr:

    Qur’an 17:78

Saheeh: Establish prayer at the decline of the sun [from its meridian] until the darkness of the night and [also] the Qur’an of dawn. Indeed, the recitation of dawn is ever witnessed.

For Fjar, Zuhr, Asr and Isha

    Qur’an 50:39

Saheeh: So be patient, [O Muhammad], over what they say and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting,

    Qur’an 50:40

Saheeh: And [in part] of the night exalt Him and after prostration.

Quran has all the details about prayer, including Jumma prayer. It describes details of Wudu and which direction to face for prayer. How to go to Rakuh and Sajdah. But the only two things missing is number of Rakahs in each prayer and anything specific to recite. Those details come from Sunnah.

It seems to me that if someone had only access to Quran and the person sincerely wanted to pray, he could perform a rudimentary prayer based only on information from Quran.

As I stated above, Quran is not the source of salat. It doesn’t even pretend to be an instruction manual for it. It mentions salat in reference to all prophets and messengers, since the practice started from prophet Adam AS just like other obligatory rituals like Saum, Zakat, Qurbani, and Hajj. If someone has access to the Quran, it’s inconceivable that they won’t have access to people who make salat. It shouldn’t be necessary to make salat only on the basis of the Quran.

I agree with you Faisal. But there are a few things that raise question.

If the point is that Salat is not defined in Quran because it was already being performed properly, then it raises a few questions.

      1. Why Wudu is defined in detail. Was it not being performed properly before?

      2. Was Salat being performed exactly this way before so there was no need to define or correct in Quran? I don’t think Salat was performed exactly this way.

      3. I believe fasting was being performed before Islam. Then why fasting is detailed out in Quran?

As Quran was being revealed, people would ask questions and God would respond to those questions. Sometimes the entire detail would be reiterated and at other times a more concise approach would be used. Similarly, if it was required to correct a mistake, a similar approach would be used.
