Can Women Fast During Their Periods?
I’ve come across some people recently who claim women can fast if they feel strong enough even when menstruating. Their argument is that it’s a choice rather than a prohibition of fasting while menstruating, as opposed to Salah which is impermissible in this condition. How do you see this?

The perpetual sunnah transmitted to us unanimously maintains that women are not allowed to keep fast during menstruation. No inference from Quran or Hadith is admissible here.

The scholars are unanimously agreed that it is forbidden for a menstruating woman to fast, and that she has to make up the days that she misses because of menstruation if that was an obligatory fast, as in Ramadaan.

Adding onto what Irfan Sahab summarized, the mensuration cycle deprives women of basic purity which is needed for any Ibadah, therefore, they must make up for their left over fasts once their cycle is over. However, if some medication can be used to postpone menstruation, then it can be used but subject to doctor’s advice.
