Is there zakat on stipend? For example, during internship, doctors get a stipend. Similarly, nurses also get a stipend during training.

In this case, will zakat be applicable on collected sum after 1 year i.e 2.5%?

There are different types of stipend. Some are reimbursements for expenses you have paid for and others are awarded in exchange for your effort. Reimbursements do not incur production zakat. Any money paid to you in exchange for your effort and/or investment will incur 5% or 10% zakat which becomes due at the time you receive the money. In addition, there’s a 2.5% zakat on your assets/savings which is due once per year.

Please enter appropriate numbers in out Zakat Calculator after reading description for each box. When you reach the end, it will generate a statement showing you exactly what percentage is applied to what and how much you owe. It’s also a great way to learn the sharia of zakat.
