This world has been made on the scheme of test and trial, with the purpose of Ibadah and with the ultimate objective of achieving tazkiya in this world when that ibadah interacts with different spheres of life. This test demands that we fully participate and involve in all the worldly matters, within the bounds of Shariah, which would in turn help us in achieving this tazkiya. There is no extreme demand from religion, the only demand is to live a balanced life in the light of rationality (aqal) and shariat and to not let emotions take over our rationality.

The verse of Suran Tauba (9:111) specifically relates to the companions of the prophet (sws) where after itmam e hujjah, one side was granted worldly kingdom and kingdom of hereafter in exchange for their lives and wealth, and the other side was meant to doom. The implications can be extended to later times, but it addresses to the companions of the Prophet (sws) first and foremost. The implication is the same, to live life within bounds of sharia with Tazkiya as a target in mind. And the requirements of Sharia do not want Muslims to be confined in any box; for sahaba, the success was meant both for this world and the hereafter after itmam e hujjah. And for later generations, if one submits his will to Allah, he will surely get his reward in the hereafter.
