Beating Wives
Peace!
The Quran outlines a procedure for men to follow against نشوز of their wives, the last step of which (if the situation does not improve after the first two) is striking them. Maybe it’s because I’m from a completely different era, but I cannot understand how striking someone (at least in this era) can bring about a change in their behaviour. In the times when it was said, “spare the rod and spoil the child,” it can be understood, but what about now when neither parents nor teachers are allowed to act like that? Can you please explain the wisdom behind this?
