Which kind of drugs are haraam?

If there are drugs which only temporarily alter the state of mind but have no addictive potential and can be used for many benificial purposes such as treating treatment resistant PTSD, smoking cessation, increasing mindfulness, potentially treating depression and many other psychiatric diseases with just a SINGLE DOSE (or a few doses) without having the need to take it again or develop addiction, but are hallucinogenic, can they be used in controlled therapeutic settings ?

Is research or volunteering for such research allowed?

The reason to declare wine Haram is its being intoxicant, not being addictive. If the drug is categorized as intoxicant or having intoxicants, it is Haram, and if not, then it is halal

Thank you for bringing it up in the QnA with Ghamidi sahab.

My question basically is can we take these drugs not just to counter the negative effects of a disease or pain but to add some positive qualities or positive personality changes in a normal person who is not in pain.

E.g there is a trait “openess” in psychology which has been studied scientifically to be increased substantially and remained increased substantially even after 1 year follow upof patients who took psilocybin

There can be many other personality changing positive effects on people who are not in pain or as Ghamidi sahab said in “Iztayraab”/difficulty.

Following is a link to such a scientific research.

In my opinion, it cannot be used. Ghamidi sb has laid out the principle here when Haram ingredient can be used. Hence, it cannot be allowed for recreational puropses etc.
