Creation In 6 Days
إِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِی خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ فِی سِتَّةِ أَیَّامࣲ ثُمَّ ٱسۡتَوَىٰ عَلَى ٱلۡعَرۡشِۖ یُغۡشِی ٱلَّیۡلَ ٱلنَّهَارَ یَطۡلُبُهُۥ حَثِیثࣰا وَٱلشَّمۡسَ وَٱلۡقَمَرَ وَٱلنُّجُومَ مُسَخَّرَ ٰتِۭ بِأَمۡرِهِۦۤۗ أَلَا لَهُ ٱلۡخَلۡقُ وَٱلۡأَمۡرُۗ تَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِینَ ﴿ ٥٤ ﴾
• ابوالاعلی مودودی:
درحقیقت تمہارا ربّ اللہ ہی ہے جس نے آسمانوں اور زمین کو چھ دنوں میں پیدا کیا ، پھر اپنے تختِ سلطنت پر جلوہ فرما ہوا۔ جو رات کو دن پر ڈھا نک دیتا ہے اور پھر دن رات کے پیچھے دوڑا چلا آتا ہے۔ جس نے سُورج اور چاند اور تارے پیدا کیے۔ سب اس کے فرمان کے تابع ہیں۔ خبر دار رہو! اُسی کی خلق ہے اور اسی کا امر ہے۔ بڑا برکت ہے اللہ ، سارے جہانوں کا مالک و پروردگار (54)
Al-A’raf, Ayah 54
May Allah forgive me. The 6 day reference here, if earth and galaxy were being created there were no days (assuming) yet. So why “days” reference?
If such questions come up should we ask or recite Lahol and move on?

Peace!
Sir, if these questions come up, you should ask them without hesitation. When the Quran mentions days like this, it means “periods.” This is because these are days according to Allah and their length is not determined. Take a look at the following examples:
1) Surah al-Hajj, verse 47:
وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِالْعَذَابِ وَلَن يُخْلِفَ اللَّهُ وَعْدَهُ ۚ وَإِنَّ يَوْمًا عِندَ رَبِّكَ كَأَلْفِ سَنَةٍ مِّمَّا تَعُدُّونَ
1 day = 1000 human years
2) Surah al-Sajda, verse 5:
يُدَبِّرُ الْأَمْرَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ يَعْرُجُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ مِّمَّا تَعُدُّونَ
1 day = 1000 human years
3) Surah al-Ma’arij, verse 4:
تَعْرُجُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ
1 day = 50,000 human years
And remember to ask questions without hesitation.

The days/period is with reference to us humans and from the intiation of the process, as God exists beyond the realm of time and space. Ghamidi Sahab calls these 6 days as 6 ilaahi days (not a 24 hour day period). For details , please see:
